GAS DETECTORS
Follow safety rules at all times. Your life and the lives of your fellow workers depend on it. Always “quick check” your gas detector or continuous monitor immediately before ues each time at the work site. Even if your company practice requires you to test your equipment at the beginning of each shift, or at the work center, anything can happen to your equipment on route from job to job.
- Test the atmosphere in a manhole before removing the cover whenever possible, i.e., through the cover puller access holes.
- Never enter a manhole without first testing for combustible gasses and purging the atmosphere within the manhole with a power ventilator. Then ensure continuous power ventilation after you enter and all the while you are working in a manhole.
- If gas is detected and/or your unit alarms while you are working in a manhole, leave the manhole immediately. Do not re-enter until the cause is determined and corrected.
Remember, it only takes a second for an accident to happen.
