U-TECK to Highlight Telcom Safety Solutions at OSP Expo 2012

At booth 225, manufacturer and distributor will showcase products that simplify everyday jobs in the field and keep workers safe
Fayetteville, N.C. – Nov. 6, 2012 – U-TECK , a developer of specialized products for the telecommunications, utility, municipal and transportation industries, will highlight telecom safety solutions at OSP Expo® 2012 . Held Nov. 14-15 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, the OSP Expo is the industry-leading event dedicated to telecom network education and delivering solutions, products, and technologies for today’s rapid wireless and wireline network evolution.
At booth 225, U-TECK will showcase four different categories of solutions that simplify everyday jobs in the field and keep workers safe:
Cable Management: Whether OSP professionals are looking to prevent gas leaks or more easily store cable reels, U-TECK offers several innovative cable management solutions. At OSP Expo, U-TECK will exhibit products including the Reel Deal™ Cable Caddy and Buried Closure Protective Housing .
FTTH Solutions: U-TECK’s Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) solutions range from fire retardant backboards for telecom and datacom equipment installations, to the Magic Wrap® emergency repair kit. Due to the growth of broadband technology, safety in handling, splicing, and maintaining fiber optics is essential.
Manhole Safety: The greatest hazards in manholes are not visible to the human eye – namely toxic gases and fumes. U-TECK provides equipment such as gas detectors and blowers to help workers practice the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s “test, purge and ventilate” routine prior to entering a confined space.
Safety Gear: U-TECK supplies a variety of useful, high-quality safety solutions that are vital to any worker’s toolbox. At OSP Expo, U-TECK will have products such as protective eyewear, safety vests, gloves and hardhats on display.
Russ Mason III, U-TECK’s vice president of sales, said, “Although U-TECK’s customers span several industries, we have always been very in-tune with the needs of the telecommunication field, as the majority of our first clients came from this market. We are looking forward to participating in OSP Expo 2012 – the show’s 20 th anniversary – and showcasing a wide range of both new and well-established solutions.”

U-TECK Offers Workplace Safety Tips for National Safety Month
6/18/12
Manufacturer’s specialized solutions help personnel in the field maintain a safe work environment and prevent accidents on the job
Fayetteville, N.C. – June 18, 2012 – In honor of National Safety Month, U-TECK , a developer of specialized products for the telecommunications, utility, municipal and transportation industries, offers its top five tips for ensuring a safe environment for workers in the field. Observed annually in June, National Safety Month is an initiative set forth by the National Safety Council to educate and influence behaviors around the leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths.
Below are five tips from U-TECK for improving workplace conditions and reducing injuries in the field:
- Invest in Ergonomic Equipment: Reduce worker fatigue, increase productivity, and avoid injuries and strains with ergonomic equipment. Such tools are designed to work with the body’s natural movements and minimize the risk for developing musculoskeletal disorders, especially back pain. For example, easily transport ladders to and from trucks with a ladder caddy, which offsets much of a ladder’s weight.
- Recognize the Dangers of Confined Space: Although they are not visible to the human eye, atmospheric hazards are all too common in manholes. Before heading down into a manhole, practice the Occupation Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) “test, purge and ventilate” routine to ensure that the space is free of combustible gases and has ample oxygen.
- Maintain Visibility: The most recent Bureau of Labor statistics show that 220 workers were struck and killed by a vehicle in 2010. Whether repairing a cable line on the side of a highway, or directing traffic around a construction site, high-visibility clothing and equipment can prevent these devastating incidents. Bright yellow or orange reflective clothing (vests, jackets, headwear, gloves and armbands) and gear (flags, signs, and splicer seats) are ideal.
- Take Caution with Ladders: According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, approximately 65,000 workers go to the hospital every year due to ladder-related accidents. Before using a ladder, inspect it for broken rungs, missing bolts and other broken parts, and make sure it is placed on level ground. When climbing up and down, face the ladder while holding onto the sides. Use a ladder wedge to help keep the ladder steady.
- Beat the Heat: Take preventative measures when working in the summer heat. In addition to proper hydration and light clothing, heavy-duty work tents and umbrellas help safeguard workers from the beating sun. The best work tents and umbrellas offer versatility and stability, and are made of high-visibility material.
Russ Mason III, U-TECK’s vice president of sales, said, “For more than 25 years, U-TECK has been dedicated to designing and developing diverse products that not only solve everyday problems on the job, but also maintain a safe work environment. As we continue to observe National Safety Month, we encourage organizations in all industries to make an extra effort to examine their current safety initiatives and ensure that they are taking the best possible measures to keep workers safe.”

11/21/07 – 92nd ANNUAL NJLM
It would be easy for an exhibitor to get lost in the crowd at the 92nd Annual Conference of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, where over 1,000 exhibitors were vying for the attention of the 20,000-plus attendees at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Armed with our patented WeedEnder® vegetation control system, various gas detectors, and other municipal tools, we certainly put the odds in our favor.
Extending our exposure beyond the New Jersey Department of Transportation, we found that the state’s municipalities were excited about the opportunity to learn about WeedEnder®, a flexible matting to control weeds without herbicides, run-off, and time-consuming weed eating, and how it can work for them in their own communities.
U-TECK is very proud to have had the opportunity to be a first-time exhibitor at the NJLM and looks forward to many years of serving the people of New Jersey.
