WHAT IS ASTM CERTIFICATION?

Flame spread ratings/classes are based on the ASTM E-84/UL 723 “Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials.” This test measures the relative rate at which flame spreads over a given surface and the degree of smoke development and toxicity.

Class ratings:
Class “A” or I
Class “B” or II
Class “C” or III

Paint related fire treatment products offer several advantages over untreated wood and other combustible materials, they do not ignite or contribute to the spread of flame and some, Intumescent coatings, will insulate the surface from the heat for a short period of time by swelling up and expanding when exposed to flame, producing a heat resistant charred surface.
