U-TECK has developed a safety product to protect the craft person from being exposed to deadly carbon monoxide while working in manholes, cable vaults, or other confined work spaces. That product is the U-TECK “HI-5” Elevated Air Intake System.

Studies have determined that, in many cities, the level of carbon monoxide at street level is higher than that allowed by OSHA. Carbon monoxide detectors can, in many cases, be brought to alarm. Also, around traffic lights, especially when traffic is stopped, there is a tremendous build up of carbon monoxide.

Carbon monoxide, being heavier than air, is naturally present at ground level. Also, it is often present in harmful levels three to four feet above the ground. The “HI-5” allows you to get above the level of bad air and into a safe clean air zone.

The U-TECK “HI-5” will attach to any conventional blower (8" or 10") by way of a ten-foot collapsible hose connected to the air intake. The screened, multidirectional intake port of the “HI-5” is then capable of being elevated to six full feet via a telescoping fiberglass pole. Now the air being blown into the work area is coming from above the level of contaminated air. All of this is accomplished with minimal loss of CFM.
